History and characteristics

Initially, the model was called Suburban Carryall - "suburban wagon", but soon enough the second word fell out of use. After removing the "namesakes" from among competitors - Dodge Town Wagon and Plymouth Suburban - GM "cut off" it officially, no longer afraid of being accused of plagiarism. However, despite the "rural" name, the model received four-wheel drive and increased clearance only at the end of the fifth generation, in 1965 - 30 years after the start of production, and then it was only an optional version.

Finally, the Chevrolet Suburban was fixed as an SUV only in the seventh generation, in 1973. But still 4x2 versions with drive only on the rear axle are available on the North American market. The model, developed as a station wagon based on a pickup truck, still has a frame structure in all 13 generations. All-wheel drive versions are equipped with a connecting front axle and a transfer case with a reduced gear range.

You can buy Chevrolet Suburban related models: Chevrolet Silverado, which is a pickup based on it, and Chevrolet Tahoe, a shortened version that began to be produced in 1995 (in 1992 as GMC Yukon) in parallel with the eighth generation Suburban. Both Silverado and Tahoe are as unified as possible with the "parent" model - they have the same exterior and interior, chassis, transmissions and engine power. In addition, General Motors produces two clones of the Chevrolet Suburban, with only minor differences in configuration: the GMC Yukon XL and the Cadillac Escalade XL.

The cult status of the model is largely due to its applicability. In the United States, it is one of the main vehicles of the special services: FBI, CIA, S.W.A.T. and many others, including presidential motorcades.

The model really has high consumer qualities. All configuration options of several recent generations of Chevrolet Suburban, the price of which depends more on the condition than on the year of production, have a leather interior, three rows of seats, climate control, cruise control and a lot of other useful options. All cars are equipped with automatic transmissions. The engines in the lineup are mostly gasoline, V8. There are versions with 4 cylinders that can be turned off, as well as FlexFuel - engines designed for work with low-octane and alcohol gasoline.

Such motors are very economical, despite their large volume and significant dimensions of the SUV body. In addition, they are perfect for installing gas cylinder equipment on a second-hand Chevrolet Suburban - the cost per kilometer will be comparable to a small car running on gasoline or diesel fuel.
